Heroes didn’t leap tall buildings or stop bullets with an outstretched hand; they didn’t wear boots and capes. They bled, and they bruised, and their superpowers were as simple as listening, or loving. Heroes were ordinary people who knew that even if their own lives were impossibly knotted, they could untangle someone else’s. And maybe that one act could lead someone to rescue you right back.

No man is an island, entire of itself; every man is a piece of the continent, a part of the main. If a clod be washed away by the sea, Europe is the less, as well as if a promontory were, as well as if a manor of thy friend’s or of thine own were: any man’s death diminishes me, because I am involved in mankind, and therefore never send to know for whom the bells tolls; it tolls for thee.

Southie Spotlight: South Standard

MEET: Ty Brieske, General Manager of South Standard

South Standard at Washington Village is a new apartment community located in the Andrew Square neighborhood of South Boston. We had the chance to get a sneak peek before the grand opening with its General Manager, Ty Briekse. He gave us an all-encompassing tour of the property and its featured model unit.

Ty Brieske is from Upham’s Corner in Dorchester, not too far from South Standard. Ty, along with his team, is leading the leasing process on these new residences, which range from studios to three-bedroom apartments featuring exclusive amenities.

When we asked Ty the perks of South Standard living, Ty shared that, “Living here presents the best of both worlds every day – it’s what South Standard is built on. Andrew Square and South Boston is everything you know, plus so much to be discovered.” This area has tremendous potential, and South Standard is at the forefront of future planning and growth for the neighborhood. Their prime location is very walkable to public transportation, community activities, and plenty of dining options. Between The LOT, Cannonball Cafe, PKL, and more, this location will only continue to grow!

In addition to South Standard’s prime location, it also boasts a second-level lounge and outdoor courtyard complete with grills, fire pits, and even a space for outdoor yoga. Amenities such as a private gym, work-from-home areas, and a beautiful rooftop are some of the highlights of South Standard. Ty gave us a tour of these unique amenities that give this place its live-work-play environment. The rooftop features 180-degree views of the Boston skyline, Southie, and the water beyond, along with plenty of space to relax with friends and an entertaining room available for residents to reserve. South Standard’s private gym overlooks the second-floor courtyard and has everything from free weights to cardio machines. The lobby will welcome residents with a free coffee bar, an easy-access package concierge service, a signature indoor fireplace, and more.

On the street level, South Standard also has over 20,000 square feet of retail space, some of which fronts “The Green”, a quarter-acre park, and the heartbeat of Washington Village. As Ty told us, “In 2024, we should see the retail at South Standard begin to open, and we’ll kick off programming at The Green with a larger community celebration.”

South Standard is the first phase of Washington Village, a master-planned community that will bring over 700 residential units, as well as approximately 80,000 square feet of retail space and even more open green space. Core Investments was the original developer on this project, and now, with its partners Samuels & Associates and Intercontinental Real Estate Corp., are excited to see the first phase unfold. Projects like this and the community opportunities they bring will continue to strengthen and enrich the Andrew Square neighborhood in the years to come.

Having spent so much time in this area, Ty believes the future of this neighborhood is full of promise. We’re hoping the new residents and all of our neighbors can see the benefits of the changes that are taking place in Andrew Square. He said, “The culture, people, new restaurants and openings, events, new and forever residents are all bringing an awesome and new level of energy to the neighborhood.”

We can’t wait to see this vision come to life and look forward to partnering with South Standard on upcoming events in the area.
