Keisha King

A FEW MINUTES WITH KEISHA KING OF CORE INVESTMENTS, INC.

Keisha King is the Assistant Controller at Core Investments, Inc. She joined the company in November 2023.

What do you actually do for Core?
I started helping out with the month-end closing processes and help support the accounting department and Controller. I’m a middle person between the Controller and the accountants. It’s a new position.

Keisha, what did you do before Core?
I was an accounting manager at WS Development.

Where did you go to school?
Undergrad Stonehill College. Grad school at Northeastern University. I got a Masters in Accounting at Northeastern and Bachelors in Accounting with a minor in Information Technology at Stonehill. I went to Boston Latin Academy for high school.

And where did you grow up?
Dorchester. I was born and raised. Same house and different floor — I grew up on the third floor and live on the second floor now. My parents are still on the third floor.

What do you do to have fun when you’re not working?
Cooking, crocheting. Sleeping is my favorite pastime. I also bartend on the side. I took a mixology class. Then I took a bartending class. I was working for an event planner, but our schedules didn’t mesh. I have a friend with a promotion service, and every now and then, I’ll go do a job once or twice a month. My favorite drink to make is anything with rum. Rum and Coke is classic, simple, a lot of people drink it. I personally don’t like Coke. My favorite drink is a mojito.

What’s a favorite place of yours in the Boston area?
Dorset Hall, a bar-restaurant in Dorchester. The food is great, and it has a great atmosphere. It’s on Neponset Ave.

Is there anything else new in your life?
I recently at my age joined a sorority. Actually, two weeks before I started I was inducted. I joined a graduate chapter, no association with Northeastern. It’s Zeta Phi Beta. They promote scholarship, sisterhood and service. Right now, we’re doing a lot of things to promote scholarship, their own and also to promote high school juniors and graduating seniors matriculating to another degree. My chapter is based out of and services southeastern Massachusetts.
