MEET: ALANNA PERRY, OWNER OF BARRE GROOVE

Alanna Perry, owner and founder of Barre Groove, is on a mission to make fitness as fun as it is effective. Alanna opened the first Barre Groove studio in Downtown Crossing six years ago. Initially a barre studio, Barre Groove soon pivoted into something unique: a fitness entertainment experience where clients can expect lights, music, themes, and even dress-up days. “We’re all about making fitness really fun for everyone,” Alanna says, a motto central to Barre Groove’s success.

This year, Alanna achieved a longtime dream by opening a new studio in South Boston. “Southie has always been a dream of mine,” she shares, “so to be here and finally have our doors open to the neighborhood has been really exciting.” The Southie location captures everything Alanna envisions for the brand, with “all pink everything” and a club-like vibe that invites people to enjoy working out in a lively, welcoming atmosphere.

Barre Groove is Boston’s first and only trampoline-based fitness studio, offering a range of low-impact, high-energy classes designed to make each workout feel like one big dance party. Barre Groove offers something for everyone, from Bounce and Bands (a cardio and HIIT class) to Twerk Out, Bounce and Sculpt, and POM POM dance classes. Each class combines trampoline work, light weights, and full-body toning in a way that feels more like a night out than a workout. There is no shortage of fun in this studio!

The name “Barre Groove” represents Alanna’s lifelong love of dance. As a trained ballet dancer and former Patriots cheerleader, she’s passionate about creating a routine that people genuinely look forward to. Her philosophy is simple: find a habit you love physically, mentally, and emotionally, and make every 45-minute class a fun and uplifting experience.

For Alanna, being in Southie is a perfect fit. Describing the area as “the jam,” she appreciates its dynamic mix of young professionals, families, and social energy. “Southie is just a beautiful Mecca beehive of energy and fun,” she says. “I knew this was a place I needed to be.” And as if fate intervened, the Southie studio is located right across from one of Alanna’s favorite spots, Loco, and close to some other vibrant small businesses, including her go-tos like Lulu Green, and Love Child.

Alanna’s day-to-day role at Barre Groove involves managing the studio, strategizing the brand’s future, teaching classes, and training instructors. She works alongside a team of passionate instructors, constantly innovating to keep the experience fresh and exciting.

She’s excited about the neighborhood’s future, seeing it as a place with endless potential and a strong sense of community. When asked to describe South Boston in one word, her answer was clear: “sassy”—a fitting description for a neighborhood as lively and spirited as Barre Groove itself.
